Shahar received a BSc degree in Physics from Bar-Ilan University, a MSc degree in Neurobiology and a PhD degree in Neuroscience, both from Tel Aviv University. In his PhD he studied the functional roles of RNA editing in the brain. During his doctoral training he was supported by a Clore fellowship and his postdoctoral training is supported by a Rothschild fellowship. In his research, Shahar combines tools from computational biology, physics, and molecular biology to design new ways to map and analyze brain activity.
